Things to Do in Niagara Falls in Spring
There are so many incredible things to do in Niagara Falls in spring.
With the weather getting warmer, and many of the outdoor attractions opening up for the season, you will have plenty of activities to choose from to fill up your Niagara Falls itinerary.
1. Witness the Power of Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls is a photographer’s dream in any season, but spring brings something special.
With higher water levels, the falls are at their fullest and most powerful, making for incredible views.
The best way to take it all in? Stand right at the brink.
Watching the rushing water cascade over the edge is an unforgettable experience. The sheer power of the falls is something you have to see for yourself.

While standing at the brink, I always seem to think about all the people who have tried to go over the Falls in a variety of vessels (mostly barrels).
What were they thinking!!??

2. Be Amazed by the Nightly Illumination Show
Since 1925, Niagara Falls becomes a masterpiece of light every evening of the year.
And it doesn’t matter what time of the year you are seeing the illuminations, the Falls always look gorgeous.
Using energy-efficient LED lighting technology, thousands of lights placed in various locations combine to produce an unparalleled light show.

The American and Canadian Horseshoe Falls are transformed into an amazing display of vivid colours that shift continuously.
We love the fact that custom colours are used to mark significant dates and to show support for a variety of charitable causes.
Spring Illumination Hours:
- March 12 – March 31: 7:30 PM – 2 AM
- April 1 – May 14: 8:00 PM – 2 AM
- May 15 – July 31: 8:30 PM – 2 AM
Of course, if you want prime viewing of the light show, consider upgrading your hotel stay to a Falls view room.
The extra cost is definitely worth it when you can see the gorgeous lights while staying warm and dry in your room.
💦 You can find the full Nightly Illumination Schedule here.
3. Take a Journey Behind the Falls
Although many popular Niagara Falls attractions may still be closed in early spring, Journey Behind the Falls is open all year round.
This attraction provides a pretty unique perspective of Niagara Falls.
Journey Behind the Falls takes you up close and behind the scenes of this thundering curtain of water.
First, you will take a journey 125 feet down to the 130-year-old tunnels. Here, you can take a peek at the Horseshoe Falls from underneath.

Next, you will have the opportunity to head outdoors onto the viewing platform. This is a really up-close view of the falls!
It’s a good thing the admission price includes a poncho! You will more than likely get a little wet!
You will definitely want to be extra careful with any electronics or cameras that are not waterproof.
During the spring, you can get a completely unique view of these magnificent falls, without the usual crowds!

4. Get Your Heart Racing at Niagara Zipline To The Falls
If you’re up for a bit of adrenaline, this is an experience you won’t forget. We love to zipline, so this was definitely a bucket list item for us.
Spring is a great time to try it, too—fewer crowds mean shorter wait times.
It all starts at the launch deck, 67 meters (220 feet) above the ground. From up there, you get an incredible view of the falls before the real thrill begins.

Once you’re strapped in, you’ll take off on one of four parallel ziplines, soaring 670 meters (2,200 feet) down toward the Niagara River.
With speeds reaching over 70 kph (40+ mph), the rush is unreal.

5. Admire the Daffodils and Tulips Along the Niagara River
If you’re a nature lover and appreciate a good view, then make sure to add a stroll along the Niagara River to your must-do list this spring.
This area has become known as the Daffodil Capital of North America for a reason.
With over one million daffodils blooming every year, it’s truly a sight to behold.
As if that wasn’t enough, each year an additional 30,000 daffodils are added to the already impressive Niagara Parks gardens.

But wait, there’s more! You can even find daffodils along the edge of the Niagara River at the brink of the Falls.
Much as daffodils are nice, my favourite flower is the tulip. And Niagara Falls has plenty of those as well!
April (ish) is when thousands of colourful tulips begin blooming in and around the Niagara Falls area.
It’s worth noting that each year, an impressive 40,000 new tulip bulbs are planted in, so you can expect the views to keep getting better and better.

Reasons To Visit Niagara Falls in Spring
Niagara Falls is an amazing place to visit in the summer when the days are longer and the weather is perfect for walking the trails. However, visiting Niagara in spring does come with some benefits.
Avoid the Crowds
Niagara Falls is one of the largest tourist attractions in Ontario.
With more than 13 million visitors flocking to the area yearly, the falls get pretty busy during the peak summer season.
During the spring, you will find the area significantly less busy.

And although a few of the attractions may still be closed or operating on a limited schedule, there are still plenty of things to keep you busy during your visit.
The shoulder season is when you will find shorter wait times, have less trouble finding parking, and there will be fewer people crowding the trails and walkways.
This can be especially welcome if you are pushing a stroller, or visiting with someone who is less mobile.
Avoid the Extreme Temperatures
While summer is a nice time to be outside, Southern Ontario can get pretty hot and humid during July and August.
So heading to Niagara in the spring, May in particular, is actually perfect.
Not only will you have plenty of sunshine, but the temperatures will be warm enough that frostbite is no longer a thought, and you won’t die of heat exhaustion either.
Spring is actually one of our favourite times to visit Niagara Falls for this very reason.
You may still need a sweater, but the temperatures are nice enough to spend plenty of time outdoors.
Get Better Hotel Deals
For the most part, hotels will definitely be less expensive during the spring, and may even have special offers and promotions happening.
Unfortunately, this usually does not apply to hotels with indoor waterparks, as those are pretty busy no matter what the season.
